Drip or Drown: Musings of a Shopahloic

This is not a new year new me post so keep your knickers on...

Hi guys,

I've had zero motivation to blog the last few weeks. Scratch that, I've made a few attempts, and abandoned them because I was not feeling the posts. I have them in my drafts, might go back to review them or not.

Back to the gist of this post, I'm trying to take full control of my finances. If you know me, you will know I love buying, retail therapy is my thing.

I shop when I'm happy, or sad. When I have a bad day at work, I buy myself something, when I have a good  day at work, I shop, when life is kicking my butt, I shop, when life is good, I shop, when I'm bored I shop.
I have every excuse in the book to shop, so why not?  I don't have kids to worry about, no black tax, health insurance paid, little bills and sadaqah is also covered, pension contributions also covered.

I have this money comes, money goes mindset, I spend it as I make it, cos the next payday is around the corner.

I put 45% of my wages into savings, I have had zero access to this savings for five to six months which is a smart move, well so I thought, then I noticed every time I got access to the funds, I blow trough it. The first thing I do when I get the money is buy new gold jewelry, at least that has a second value.

The rest goes to bags, shoes, perfume, holidays, and gifts. Online shopping will the death of me. I spend hours jumping from one app to the other, convincing myself I need this bag, I need these shoes.
Realistically why did I spend 450 euros on a bag that can only fit my cards and lipgloss?.... beacuse it's calfskin.
Why did I spend 205 euros on a bracelet I won't wear every day? Cos it's calfskin and I've always wanted it, if you know me well, you will know I hate taking off jewelry, I'm not the change earrings, etc every morning type of babe, hence why is stick to gold, I don't have to take it off to get in the shower.

I can wear the same earring for a year, I only change my jewelry often when I'm in Naij, cos my mother can have several heart attacks if I wear the same studs or bracelet.

I had to stop buying Swarovski, I used to buy them because they looked so pretty, but now I have a collection under the bed, some are still new, which is a huge waste.

I can sit and obsess over  bracelets, bags, runners, or heels for hours until I convince myself I need it and my life won't be the same if I don't buy it.

I've bought all sorts the last two weeks, then I looked at my account balance last night and I got a shock.
I've spent most of my savings on shopping, what happens if there is an emergency? I simply cannot afford it, which is very unfortunate.

So I've decided to delete all my shopping apps and Just eat, I spend a lot on takeout because I can't be bothered to cook, eating out does not come cheap. Just eat was the first to go, I deleted it to 2am. I still have Zara, Asos, and Zalando as I'm still waiting on a delivery, once I get my items I will uninstall them, will be keeping amazon since I need that for books and toiletries.
Will also cut out buying coffee and takeout, starbucks 3-4 times a week is not cheap.

For the next three months, I won't be making any purchases, I don't care if it's 95% off.
I'm dying to see how much I'll save.

I'm meeting up with my friend for dinner tomorrow, and everything I plan to wear is new, from t-shirts to runners, all purchased in the last three weeks. I won't lie there is this amazing feeling that comes with rocking new fits and knowing you can afford what you want.
However knowing I work for shoes and handbags suck.

Struggling.

I finished my solat yesterday.  I finished my solat for the first time since Ramadan ended in March, I prayed faj, dhur, asr, magrib and isha. I burst into ugly tears on the last rakah of isha. Tears so ugly I struggled to get the ayahs out.  I have always struggled with my eeman, especially solat. Last month, after four years and two weeks , I took my scarf off because wearing it made me feel like a hypocrite. My scarf made it easy for people to identify me as a Muslim. I was in Lagos, and wearing a scarf meant hearing people call me "Hajia, Alhaja " and the likes and I was not up for it, it felt off knowing I was not doing the one thing Allah asked me to do which was to worship him.  I started feeling really guilty on Thursday, guilty because I was living my life as if I did not have Allah. I decided to resume Quran classes, which I stopped last year and had no plans of returning.  I had a conversation with a friend about feeling the need to do tahajjud as doing it...

Arabic & Madrasah: My love-hate relationship with both.

Hi guys,  I honestly don't know how to start this one, so I guess I'll dive right in: this post is about my struggles with Arabic, learning et all.  As a child I hated Madrasah or (ile-kewu) as it's fondly called by the Yorubas, I hated it because the Ustadhs (Alfas) were MEAN, they had no mercy, they flogged for anything and everything, I was a bit of rebel growing up, still one. So I started making up excuses not to go, Madrasah was mandatory when we visited my grandmother, it wasn't at my house, so I made up all sorts of excuses not to go. I also remember seeing an Ustadh touch a lady inappropriately on the way home one night and that left a bad taste in my mouth, I was very young, but something about it did not sit right with me.

The Good , The Bad and The Ugly

Hi guys,  I know I said I'll put in more effort with posts but life and other stuff got in the way, I had exams but that's done and dusted for now. Currently typing up this post at a Starbucks in the city centre while sipping on a caramel frappe, my third this week.  Caramel frappes are delightful, I've tried them at a few places and Starbucks is still number one for me. The sweet taste of the caramel syrup, the slight bitterness of coffee blended with ice and topped with cream and drizzled with sticky caramel topping, orgasm in a cup I tell you.  Enough about my drink, let's dive into the post for today, I honestly don't know how to start, it came to my head a few weeks ago and took notes, this is what happens when I don't work on a post immediately after getting the idea.  There is this power tussle in my head, between the good, the bad and the ugly, let me break it down, as most of you know I am a Muslim, not just a Muslim but a practising one, and as a Musli...
